This 3-part in-person workshop series is designed to support faculty in creating inclusive and accessible learning environments for all students by exploring critical concepts of accessibility and accommodation planning.

Participants will audit their current practices, reflect on gaps, learn about Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessible pedagogy, and best practices for using technology to support accommodations.

The outcome of the series is an action plan tailored to each participant’s teaching context, aimed at enhancing accessibility and accommodation in their courses. This workshop series will empower faculty to take meaningful steps toward creating more inclusive and supportive learning experiences for all students.

Session 1: Reflect and Audit (2 hours)

Faculty will reflect on their current teaching practices related to accessibility and academic accommodations. Through a guided audit, participants will identify both strengths and gaps in their current approaches. Faculty will consider ways of gathering student feedback, implementing policies, and discuss challenges and achievements they have encountered.

Session 2: Exploring Approaches and Sharing Ideas (2 hours)

Participants will be introduced to multiple pathways for accessible teaching, UDL principles, and technology tools that support accommodation. We will discuss the difference between accommodation and modification by addressing some key design moves to support student success and instructor workload. This session will be collaborative, with participants sharing strategies and learning from one another’s experiences and challenges.

Session 3: Action Planning (2 hours)

In this final session of the series, participants will consolidate their learning by creating a personalized action plan. They will integrate the knowledge gained from the previous sessions into practical steps for enhancing accessibility and accommodation in their courses.
