Join this 90-minute workshop, “Using Authentic Assessments to Encourage Academic Integrity,” where educators will learn to implement strategies that promote honesty and student engagement. With many educators at KPU already creating progressive assessments in their contexts, this workshop focuses on producing and sharing real-world, application-based assignments that foster broad engagement with the material and refining these successful strategies. Facilitators will cover theoretical and practical aspects of authentic assessment, helping participants understand and design assessments that reflect true student learning.

Educators will explore project-based and experiential learning and performance assessments tailored to their disciplines, effectively evaluating knowledge while minimizing plagiarism.
Interactive sessions will enable participants to design and refine their assessments with peer feedback. By the end, educators will have a toolkit of authentic assessment strategies, an understanding of academic integrity’s importance, and the confidence to foster a culture of honesty in their classrooms, leading to genuine, lasting learning outcomes for students.

Through engaging in the activities and content of this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to:
1. Analyze the principles and theories underpinning authentic assessments to understand their impact on promoting academic integrity.
2. Evaluate different types of authentic assessments for various subject areas to identify their strengths in discouraging dishonest behaviors.
3. Create effective, context-rich assessment tasks that require higher-order thinking skills, ensuring that students engage deeply and honestly with the material.
4 Design a comprehensive assessment plan that integrates multiple forms of authentic assessments, aimed at fostering academic integrity and supporting genuine student learning.
